This adaptive youth soccer program is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer volunteers. It is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, who has a cognitive or physical disability. Our goal is to enable the young athletes with disabilities to become valued and successful members of the community.

Each season is organized in a way to bring fun and enjoyment to your child while involved in an athletic activity. Exercise and social awareness are some of the benefits you will see in adaptive soccer programs.

The Buddy is an invaluable volunteer. The Buddy is not a player and does not score goals. A Buddy can be a caregiver, aide, family member, friend, peer, teenager or adult.

The role of the Buddy may include but not be limited to:

  • Enable player to participate/play
  • Assist/create/direct/guide/teach in a FUN but learning environment
  • Continuously monitor/assist the player
  • Role varies widely depending upon needs of the player
  • Interact with players, coaches, & parents
Adaptive Soccer Program for Players with Disabilities!

Adaptive soccer is a community-based program for players with disabilities, organized and staffed by local volunteers.

Adaptive soccer sessions are scheduled at a time and location at which there are limited distractions. Players may play with or without assistance in a low-competitive setting. Soccer is a great sport, which can be adapted or modified to accomodate almost any player's situation.

WYSA has organized programing for players with special needs since the summer of 2011. We had a wonderful first season with lots of fun had by all the athletes, teammates, coaches, siblings, and parents. Each season, more players join our program, while many of our players and teammates return each season. This allows our community to grow a little stronger and closer with each passing year. It is great to see the athletes learn new skills, but the real joy is just allowing the kids to play soccer and have fun. Adaptive soccer is often the highlight of our week during the summer!
