Wasilla Youth Soccer Association is pleased to announce a dynamic, annual training program for players 4-18 years old aimed at providing young players with an opportunity to learn new skills and grow through sport.
The goal of the WYSA developmental program is to provide our players with additional high quality training through the winter/spring season. All programs will be facilitated by WYSA technical
director Michael Green.
Michael has over 15 years youth coaching experience. He holds his USSF B license, NSCAA premier diploma, USSF national youth license, and NSCAA youth diploma. Michael has a Degree in Management and
over 6 years of professional playing experience. He won a Major League Soccer championship in 2000 with the Kansas City Wizards. As a professional player Michael was able to play all over the
world, including Argentina, Canada, Ecuador, England, Germany, and Portugal. He also had the opportunity to go on an extended training loan with Bayern Leverkusen in 1999. While in College at the
University of Virginia, Michael was an ACC champion, NCAA division 1 national finalist and ranks third all time for most minutes played in a season.
U6 Mini Future Stars
(8/1/2007 - 7/31/2008)
8 weeks x 1 sessions/week
Cost: $150
The U6 program will focus on individual skill development and movement education. Age appropriate games and activities will be used to teach soccer skills in a fun way! In addition, each session
will include "small sided" games in a 2v2, 3v3 format.
At this level, players need to participate in activities that cater to frequent ball contacts and basic motor skill development. Training sessions will include one player-one ball activities, various fun games, and loads of positive reinforcement from coaches and parents in order to build confidence and a love for the game.
U8 Junior Future Stars
(8/1/2005 - 7/31/2007)
12 weeks x 2 sessions/week
Cost: $250
The U7/U8 program will focus on individual play, movement education, and a little passing. Age appropriate games and activities will be used to teach soccer skills in a fun way! In addition, each
session will include "small sided "games in a 3v3, 4v4 format.
At this level, dribbling the soccer ball "ball feeling" is still the most important component, although passing can be expected and will be encouraged. Players will participate in a mixture of
individual and partner activities, various fun games, and loads of positive reinforcement from coaches and parents in order to build confidence and a love for the game.
U10 Future Stars
(8/1/2003 - 7/31/2005)
12 weeks x 2 sessions/week
Cost: $250
The U9/U10 program will focus on individual play, support and ball circulation, and small-group tactics. Age appropriate games and activities will be used to teach soccer skills in a fun way! In
addition, each session will include "small sided" games in a 3v3, 4v4 format.
At this level, improving and refining individual play through technical repetition is the most important goal. Small group tactical awareness will be expanded. Players at this stage will be
encouraged to creatively produce individual solutions to tactical and technical problems by improving vision and support, and by controlling and changing the rhythm of play.
Note: Under the supervision of Michael Green, Technical Director some players will be selected from this academy group to be taken to the next level. These selected players will be given the
opportunity to train with Valley Revolution competitive teams that will be competing in local competitive leagues and tournaments.
U12 Shooting Stars
(8/1/2001 - 7/31/2003)
12 weeks x 2 sessions/week
Cost: $250
The U11/U12 program will focus on individual play, support, and combination play, and larger group tactics. Age appropriate games and activities will be used to teach soccer skills in a fun way! In
addition, each session will include "small sided" games in a 3v3, 4v4 format.
At this level, training sessions will include significant periods of technical repetition and small-sided play to reinforce and refine each player's technical base. Players at this stage will be
encouraged to embrace basic ideas of positioning and roles within a team. Vision, support, and mobility will be expanded to include combinations in two's and three's. Soccer specific fitness will
also be introduced as players learn the benefits of training for speed, agility, quickness, balance, and strength.
Note: Under the supervision of Michael Green, Technical Director some players will be selected from this academy group to be taken to the next level. These selected players will be given the opportunity to train with Valley Revolution competitive teams that will be competing in local competitive leagues and tournaments.
U14 All Stars
(8/1/1999 - 7/31/2001)
12 weeks x 2 sessions/week
Cost: $250
The U13/U14 program will focus on the expansion and refinement of the player's technical base. Practice activities at this level will be geared towards improving decision-making under pressure,
while challenging players to solve small and large groups problems quickly and collectively. Players at this stage will be encouraged to embrace basic ideas of positioning and roles within a team.
Vision, support, and mobility will be expanded to include combinations in two's and three's. Soccer specific fitness will also be introduced as players learn the benefits of training for speed,
agility, quickness, balance, and strength.
Note: Under the supervision of Michael Green, Technical Director some players will be selected from this academy group to be taken to the next level. These selected players will be given the opportunity to train with Valley Revolution competitive teams that will be competing in local competitive leagues and tournaments.
U15 - 19 Varsity Stars "LifeStyle"
(8/1/1994 - 7/31/1997)
6 weeks x 3 sessions/week
Cost: $200
This program will focus on putting it all together through the understanding of systems of play, leadership, and lifestyle choices. Preparation for high school and recreational seasons will be emphasized. The physical conditioning portion of this program is designed to prepare high school athletes for the rigor of a high school soccer season. This program will stress the importance of a proper warm-up to prepare body and mind for training. We also hope to educate players about aerobic fitness, with and without a ball, to promote general cardiovascular efficiency and anaerobic fitness to promote power and explosiveness.
Note: Under the supervision of Michael Green, Technical Director some players will be selected from this academy group to be taken to the next level. These selected players will be given the opportunity to train with Valley Revolution competitive teams that will be competing in local competitive leagues and tournaments.
